Margaret Carey Foundation

The Margaret Carey Foundation (MCF) is a regional charity that works both within the criminal justice system and with vulnerable and marginalised communities to give people the chance to help others and learn new skills. It is our mission to provide training opportunities, resources and environments that support rehabilitation of people in prisons in order to help break the cycle of re-offending as well as undertaking preventative work in the community.
We rescue scrapped bicycles and wheelchairs that are no longer in use and set up workshops where prisoners clean, adjust and repair them to a high standard. We then give all the refurbished wheelchairs and a proportion of the bikes to communities in need, in the UK and in developing countries.

In this way, prisoners work to make life easier and better for disadvantaged people. At the same time as helping others, offenders learn to develop a positive work ethic, gain useful skills and become better prepared for employment after release.

Communities: In the autumn of 2015, we launched a new community bike project called MCF Bradford Bikery, based in social housing in central Bradford, and working in partnership with InCommmunities. Also in 2015, we opened an affordable community bike shop and workshop in Shipley, which has since thrived into a sustainable social enterprise

Millside Centre

The Millside Centre is a new community centre based in the heart of Bradford serving vulnerable people in our locality. The project was birthed after conducting in-depth research in the local area which identified some of the pressing needs, deprivation and gaps in services but also highlighted a demand for a new community space to help improve the lives of local people in our diverse community.

We believe that all people, given the right opportunity, are seeking to improve their lives in some way. For some this may be to develop or increase their mental capacity by education or experience, or improve personal health and well being to be able to enjoy a fuller life. Somebody who is unemployed may wish to improve their chances of securing paid employment, and a person who is isolated may simply wish to have a space where they can meet new people and improve their social skills.

The Millside Centre is dedicated to helping you to improve your life, whatever that may look like.

Motive8

Motive8 Bradford Limited is a registered charity that was established in 2012 and is based at the South Bradford Vocational Centre.

The success of our learners is at the heart of everything we do.

We are adaptable and consistent in creating opportunities for vocational training that are current and accessible for all learners. We believe that good education is not a 'one size fits all' process so we offer choices to young people who may not feel motivated by a mainstream academic approach.

Motive8 recognises the benefits of working with young people in a holistic way, providing them with opportunities to grow and develop in an environment that suits their needs. We therefore offer a bespoke programme of education, skills development, and support to help young people succeed in their next steps – whatever those might be.

We create a personal relationship with them throughout their time with us, working with them and alongside them as they progress towards a qualification in their chosen field. Here at Motive8, young people feel safe, supported and respected; we know this because that's what they tell us!
