National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children - Bradford

National charity providing a range of services for children and young people and their families. Locally, this includes:

Domestic Abuse, Recovering Together (DART) is a group work programme that helps children and mothers get back on track after experiencing domestic abuse. Over ten weeks, mothers and children aged seven to 14 meet to explore their experiences, learn coping strategies and rebuild their parent-child relationships.

InCtrl helps to build young people’s understanding of the risks and benefits of the internet. We work with children aged 9 to 13, using group sessions to build online resilience and promote emotional wellbeing. Parents and carers are encouraged to get involved and help protect their children from online abuse.

Pregnancy in Mind - a preventative mental health service that helps support expectant parents who have or are at risk of mild to moderate anxiety or depression. Activities include mindfulness, active relaxation and peer support. Parents-to-be can attend the programme between 12 and 28 weeks gestation.

Naye Subah

The project provides a range of daycare and support services, including: therapeutic groups, psychological therapy groups, support groups, and activity-based groups. It also provides information, outreach and advocacy, community support and direction, emotional support and relaxation sessions.

To provide support, enable recovery and promote independence to Asian Women in the Bradford area experiencing mental health difficulties.

Initial assessment of needs in the community.
If accepted by the service, will be offered a support plan.
Advice and information on other services.
Individual support up to 6 sessions.
There will be regular reviews on support needs.

Here at Naye Subah we aim to meet the needs of Asian Women living in the Bradford area who are experiencing and / or recovering from moderate to severe mental health difficulties.

The service is for Women and girls 16+

Referral form must be fully completed by the referrer and returned to Naye Subah.
Initial contact will be made with the referrer within 7 working days.
Contact will be made for an initial assessment at mutually agreed place / venue.
Practitioners who are working within the field of health and social care.

Naye Subah is a confidential service, however we may have to share information with relevant agencies with your consent.

Staff employed by Naye Subah have an understanding of mental health distress and are able to support Asian women experiencing mental distress.

Nebula Girls' Group

New Libya Society

New Libya society is registered charity that works to help the Libyan community in Bradford and surrounding area in education, sharing culture, volunteers, sports.

New Vision Bradford (Humankind, Bridge Project, Create Strength Group and Project 6)

New Vision Bradford is a new service to help people who have issues with alcohol and other drugs across the district. The service is a partnership between national charity Humankind, and three local charities, the Bridge Project, Create Strength Group and Project 6.

New Vision Bradford has been commissioned by Bradford Council and the NHS West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board, through the Bradford District and Craven Health and Care Partnership.

New Vision Bradford will include a range of support including harm reduction, care coordination, clinical and therapeutic interventions. The service will continue to work with people who become abstinent to help them to create a healthy and meaningful life. It will also provide support for family members.

We also have a Recovery Centre on North Parade in Bradford city centre for people who are now abstinent from alcohol and drugs.

New Vision Bradford also has workers at various GP surgeries and health centres across the district.

Newlands Community Association

The main aim of the charity is to relieve poverty, advance education and provide and assist in the provision of facilities for recreation or leisure time in order to the improve the quality of life for local people. NCA works in the Bradford East area of the district. NCA promotes projects that will bring benefit to the community and offers volunteer placements through NCA (Trading) Ltd, the charity's trading company. NCA (Trading) owns the Inspire Bradford business park which it rents to a diverse range of tenants.

Newlands Furniture Service: Food for Life

Food for Life is a Community Food Hub, managed by a charity called Newlands Furniture Service providing food and essential products to local people who are struggling to make ends meet. Thanks to Big Lottery funding a shop in York House, has been refurbished to house the Community Food Hub.

Anybody in receipt of benefits/pensions can become members of the Community Food Hub; people can sign up for membership on Tuesday mornings 11 until 12 at the Community Food Hub.

The hub runs as a ‘Community Pantry’ where members pay £3 per visit (they can also donate more if they can afford to) the number of items of shopping depends on the size of their household.

North and West Yorkshire ASBAH

North & West Yorkshire ASBAH supports anyone affected by the diagnosis of Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus. We do this through regular welfare and befriending calls, peer supported activities, online and face to face, advocacy and sign posting.

North East Windhill Community Association

Windhill Community Centre:
Advice; Café; Computer Room/Job Club; Early Years Nursery; Kidz Club [after-school children and youth activities]; Volunteering, Work Experience and Placement opportunities; Weekly Arts, Crafts, Dance and Keep Fit exercise sessions as well as evening and weekend events.

North of England Activities and Training

The group is for young people aged 11 to 25 and those working with and for them. We support or provide out-of-school hours activities, organisation and management, especially outdoor experience and training. Locations vary, depending on activity and client group.

Northcliffe Allotment Society

Northcliffe Allotment Society is a registered charity that manages allotments under an agreement with Bradford Metropolitan District Council. There are 150 allotments which are let to people living in the local area. Applications for plots can be made through our website.

The society is developing community space that can be open to local people to come and enjoy but also work for wildlife.

We have achieved a lot already: creating a few raised beds which have been filled with herbs and flowers, a wildlife friendly area with ponds, brash piles and a habitat designed to please birds, butterflies and insects, and a tree nursery beds to grow on the small trees ready to be planted out in the woods and park.

To make more progress on this site we have recently set up a community garden and orchard group, which meets once a month on the first Saturday of each month from 10am to 12pm. It is open to anyone to come along and join in, there are always a range of jobs each time to suit people’s interest and capabilities. We have all the tools and gloves you need, but please wear boots or strong shoes as the site still has its challenges.

Northcliffe Environmental Enterprises Team (NEET)

NEET is a registered charity based in Northcliffe Park, Shipley. We work with around 70 people with a learning disability to offer daytime opportunities that are flexible and person-centred. The programme centres on personal development, welfare and practical learning opportunities in horticulture, cookery, woodwork and related activities.

Our mission is to enable people with learning disabilities to lead an inclusive and fulfilling life.

Nutrition Advice Fitness Self-care

Self care is about looking after yourself, living a healthy lifestyle and focussing on what you can do, rather than things you can’t.

It’s also about taking responsibility for your own health and wellbeing with the support of the people involved with your care. It starts with really simple things like brushing your teeth regularly, taking medicine when you have a cold, or making time to exercise. It’s really important to look after yourself in order to stay as well as possible.

We can give personal and professional advice suited to your needs and abilities.

Oakworth Pre-school

Oakworth Pre-School (previously known as 'Oakworth Playgroup') based at Oakworth Methodist Church is an Ofsted-registered early years setting for 2 to 4 year olds run by experienced, enthusiastic, local childcare professionals with specialist provision for those with special educational needs or disabilities.

At just £13.50 per child, the flexible sessions which run on Mondays and Fridays 9am to 12pm and Wednesdays and Thursdays 9am to 2.45 pm during term time, offer excellent value for money with parents paying per half term to secure their child's place for one, some or all days each week, with nothing to pay during school holidays. Fully funded places are also available.

Oakworth Village Society

Every resident of Oakworth is a member of Oakworth Village Society. We undertake helpful activities for the benefit of Oakworth village. We hold meetings and provide facilities for local voluntary organisations to have fund raising stalls at our annual Summer Gala and Christmas Fair. We try to encourage local interest in the upkeep and appearance of the village, in particular our unique park.

Olicana Bridge Club

2023 is our club's diamond jubilee year!

Located in the centre of Ilkley, we are pleased to welcome members and visitors. Each week there will usually be five sessions in the club at 12 Wells Promenade. These are Tuesday and Wednesday evenings with play starting at 7.05pm, Wednesday morning at 9.55am and on Monday and Friday afternoons at 1.45pm. There will be students social sessions on occasional Fridays at 7pm. We also run two on-line sessions each week on Monday (BBO) and Thursday (Real Bridge) at 7.15pm. Please see the calendar and competitions for more details of all of our events.

Please do not bring cash to pay for f2f sessions, we will invoice members for all sessions played and this will be £2.50 members, £3.50 non members. Members can log in to see their own personal account. Please remember that no premises can guarantee to be Covid free so members have to take their own individual decisions and above all please keep everyone's safety in mind when playing at the club. Note we currently have a maximum limit of 14 tables so at busy sessions do be seated in good time to ensure your place.

Olive Branch Community Church

Olive Branch is a multi-cultural non-denominational christian fellowship reaching out to the communities of West Bowling.
Our Projects cover the well-being issues of children, young people, adults and families including such issues as holiday hunger and physical and mental health.

One In a Million

One In A Million is a Bradford based charity that engages with children and young people, through Sports, the Arts and Enterprise. The charity has three related companies that run different parts of their services:

OIAM (Sports) is a charitable company limited by guarantee. This is known as ‘One In A Million Charity’, which delivers community based programmes and activities across the Bradford district. Fundraising and corporate events take place to make our model sustainable alongside grants and funding. It is governed by the Board of Trustees who are responsible for setting the vision, strategy and policy; autonomy for operational implementation is delegated to the Leadership Team.

OIAM (Enterprises) Limited is a wholly subsidiary company limited share of OIAM (Sports). The Leadership Team is responsible for implementation of all operational aspects of Enterprises.

OIAM Academy Trust includes a school/s, which is/are grant funded by the ESFA (Education and Skills Funding Agency), and annual accounts and financial statements are reported independently from (Sports) and (Enterprise) Limited. One In A Million Charity is the sponsor of the school as reflected in its members of The Academy Trust. Delegate governance duties are given to the Board of Governors.

All three entities (OIAM (Sports), OIAM (Enterprises) Limited, and OIAM Academy Trust exist to support the charitable aims and objectives of extending the life chances of Bradford’s children and young people through the Hub and Spoke model.

Open House For Seniors

Drop-in Open House for Seniors, meeting at the Alhambra Bradford, on Mondays and Tuesdays 10am to 2pm. Monthly programme available from our venue. Programme includes: exercise every week on Mondays; light refreshments at affordable prices; occasional speakers on relevant subjects for older people and reminiscences.

Otley Road & Undercliffe Community Works (Communityworks)

Community project working in the Otley Road and Undercliffe areas of Bradford, offering activities for all ages. Communityworks has four main aims:
Building social cohesion through bringing together individuals and changing communities. Seeking to understand each other and celebrating our differences, leading to a thriving neighbourhood.
To equip people with skills, knowledge, confidence and resilience to enable them to meet their needs and discover new solutions.
Work together with children, young people, adults and older people to encourage routes to improve life chances.
To be a community resource that promotes good health and well-being.

Outside the Box

Outside the Box is run by registered charity Ilkley Community Enterprise Ltd. Outside the Box offers many different opportunities for adults with a learning disability (Our members) these include:
OTB Community Cafe- provides training, work experience, learning and development opportunities for people with learning disabilities and other support needs. Our members usually attend for half day sessions that help members gain real life experience, develop new skills and increase their social and community connections.
OTB Choices- offers a range of workshops and activities within a number of areas including arts and crafts, health and well being, Independent living skills enabling our members to express themselves creatively, learn new skills, increase their confidence, showcase their talents, stay healthy, fit and safe, make friends and have fun.
OTB Works is our employment initiative helping members to get and keep paid jobs. We provide members with the confidence, skills and advice and support they need for paid work plus the access to suitable job opportunities that they deserve.

Oxenhope Gardening Club

A lively gardening forum in Oxenhope. If you are looking for a sociable night out and are interested in gardening this is the club for you.
We have speakers on widely varying horticultural topics. Over the summer we visit local gardens, take trips further afield and hold an annual plant sale.

For just £25 you get a season of stimulating evening talks by big names in gardening, and visits to iconic gardens in the summer months. Why not come and join us?

All meetings, unless otherwise noted, are on the third Thursday of the month at 7.30 pm in Oxenhope Community Centre. Admission, unless otherwise noted, is £5 for non members, members free. Membership is £25 per year.

Oxenhope Straw Race

The Oxenhope Charity Straw Race takes place every summer - it is always on the first Sunday in July. The race is organised by a community organisation that is currently applying for charity registration.

To date this event has raised over £450,000 with funds donated to Sue Ryder Manorlands Hospice, Haworth Riding for the Disabled and other local worthy causes.

What happens on the day?
Teams of two (or larger combined teams) are timed running the race in fancy dress, carrying a bale of straw (15-20 kgs), visiting six pubs drinking a pint at each (except the last one). The route is approximately 2.5 miles, starting at the Waggon and Horses, with stops at The Bay Horse, the former “Idiot Hut” social club, onto The Lamb, then the former Shoulder of Mutton with an uphill push to the finish at the Dog and Gun. Prizes are awarded for fastest times and best fancy dress.

Parents Against Child Exploitation

PACE (Parents Against Child Sexual Exploitation) is a national charity that supports parents and carers whose children are being exploited by offenders outside of the family. We also train professionals in how to support affected children and their parents using a trauma-informed, family-centric approach.
