Description:

The main aim of the Black Health Forum (BHF) is to work in partnership with the African / African-Caribbean communities in the Bradford district enabling them to become, confident and informed about Health and Social Care Services on offer. The BHF acts as a conduit for disseminating information and signposting services. It also supports African and African Caribbean groups that do not have a constitution in delivering health related projects.

The BHF was set up informally in May 2000, to look at health and social care issues relating to African/African-Caribbean communities and the services they receive. Due to the successful funding application made in 2001, to the then City Primary Care Trust, the BHF was able to go on to develop into a more formal structure with the ultimate goal of achieving our aim.

The forum is made up of health, social and voluntary sector workers, who share a common goal of reducing inequalities in health and social care for the African/African-Caribbean communities in the Bradford district. Over the years the committee members have changed, some have left and new ones have come on board and some old members have returned.

The forum continues to run on a purely voluntary basis. Over the past two years we have seen a significant increase in membership.
