Bradford Breastfeeding Buddies is a local breastfeeding peer support service offered by the National Childbirth Trust (NCT). We provide support and information around breastfeeding to families in the Bradford and Keighley areas. Our peer supporters are all mums who have breastfed their own children; they work voluntarily but are fully trained to offer breastfeeding support and are professionally supervised.
We can offer support, before or after birth in a variety of ways:
Antenatal Clinics– Some of our peer supporters attend antenatal clinics. You can chat to them about the value of breastfeeding and the practical skills involved. You can also find out how to access support once your baby has been born.
Hospital – Some of our peer supporters volunteer at Bradford Women and Newborn Unit and also at Airedale General Hospital on the postnatal wards, where you can obtain breastfeeding help and support. They wear a white polo shirt and green NCT identification badge.
Breastfeeding Drop In Groups – Our peer supporters attend drop in groups in a variety of settings across the district. These provide a relaxed and friendly atmosphere where you can feel safe to ask for help, information and support around breastfeeding. Come along to meet other mums and babies in an informal setting. Refreshments and a listening ear are always at hand.
Telephone – If you wish to receive a call back from a local peer supporter – text FEED to 66777 followed by your name, baby’s date of birth and postcode and we will aim to call you back within 48 hours. You can also speak to a NCT breastfeeding counsellor on 0300 330 0700 from 8am until midnight.
