Post: Community Development Worker

Hours of work: 21 hours per week

Salary: £23,023 pro rata

Holiday Entitlement: 30 days per annum plus 9 public holidays per rata.

Responsible for: Supervision of Volunteers

Project Aim: The Project will bring people together from across Bradford to access social groups, activities and first steps learning. It will provide opportunities for people to get to know each other, make friends, develop informal support networks, and learn from each other.

The project aims to improve the quality of life of people in Little Horton and surrounding areas of Bradford by engaging them in community-based opportunities to gain skills, improve employability; and to access information enabling them to make life choices leading to better lifestyle, health and wellbeing.

Purpose of Post

  • To establish and develop links with other groups and stakeholders
  • To develop referral systems between other groups and agencies
  • To engage and support people with complex support needs
  • To develop and deliver groups and activities in line with the wants and needs of the project and its participants.
  • To engage, train and support volunteers
  • To maintain systems for the collection of Management Information Main Responsibilities
  • To develop and deliver a range of group activities.
  • To assist with the delivery of existing groups and activities.
  • To write and deliver group activities promoting healthy lifestyles
  • To develop links with the local community
  • To recruit and engage and induct members of the community.
  • To register, induct and support volunteers.
  • To assist with the organising of community events
  • To monitor and evaluate all aspects of delivery.
  • To maintain systems for the collection of Management Information.
  • Registration and Induction of beneficiaries
  • To maintain and update website and social media

Other Duties:

To work as a member of The West End Centre team participating in and contributing to the development and delivery of provision.

As a member of The West End Centre team, you are expected to:

  • Be an active team member.
  • Contribute to the development and performance of The West End Centre.
  • Adhere to all West End Centre policies and procedures
  • Actively promote the principles of equal opportunities, celebrate diversity and challenge discriminatory practices
  • Participate in training as necessary
  • Undertake all other reasonable duties appropriate to the post.

The post holder will be expected to be proactive, be able to work effectively and efficiently as part of the team or on own as necessary. He/she will be offered regular supervision and support, a probationary review and an annual appraisal.

This is a hands-on post, and it is essential that the successful applicant can develop and deliver group provision. Work in a ICT open workshop setting and provide learners with 1 to 1 support if necessary. In house training and full induction will be provided.
