Community Development Worker

We have a rewarding and exciting opportunity for a Community Development Worker in Bradford. You’ll be providing HIV prevention in Bradford to, and in collaboration with:

  • African people,
  • gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men,
  • some Latin communities,
  • some Eastern European communities,
  • people selling sex,
  • Other emerging communities most at risk of HIV transmission.

Helping to improve their sexual health, as well as supporting, and developing skills of self-management in people living with HIV. People with lived experiences are encouraged to apply. We’re especially interested in hearing about your experience of developing and delivering training and your passion to deliver the best services for marginalised communities. 

Aims of post

  • To reduce the incidence of onward transmission of HIV in Bradford.
  • To establish local community initiatives with People living with HIV, which explore needs. 
  • To improve sexual health of populations most at risk of HIV and poor sexual health across Bradford through voluntary action.
  • To improve lives of the people living with and affected by HIV. 

Prime Objectives (for full list see Job description) 

  1. To work with Most At Risk Populations (MARPs) for HIV transmission and People Living With HIV (PLWH) to improve access to advice, information and guidance around HIV Prevention and Social Support needs.
  2. To develop and support grassroots community forums, educative and peer support groups and events for PLWH and MARPs.
  3. To deliver appropriate community based sexual health interventions including HIV point of care tests (POCT) to the target groups in community settings. To market these services and monitor and evaluate them. To work in partnership with appropriate agencies to develop these services further. 
  4. To deliver support and self-management interventions to People Living with HIV.
  5. To deliver training including basic HIV & LGBT awareness, to professionals in Bradford

Salary: NJC scale 6 (points 19 - 22) starting at £25,481 pro rata per annum for 37 hours per week. This is an employment contract until March 2023. Salary is reviewed annually. There is a 5% workplace pension (on completion of probationary period). This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS with barred lists check.
