The Children’s Trauma Therapy Service, at Bradford Family Action, is a specialist therapy service providing trauma and attachment focussed therapy for children and their families. We currently have two streams of therapy. Specialist recovery-focussed therapy for children / young people aged 5-18 who have experienced sexual abuse or a traumatic bereavement. Our offer of therapy usually includes work with the whole family, though we also welcome self-referrals from individual young people.

Children aged 4-11 who have experienced one or more Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)* and who are experiencing trauma symptoms or family difficulties. These families can now receive therapy through CALM; a new therapy service jointly funded by the Department of Health and Bradford CCG. This service is led by the Children’s Trauma Therapy Service team and delivered in partnership with Step2 and Relate Bradford.

This Senior Therapist role is to work as part of a leadership team alongside the Service Manager and another Senior Therapist to provide clinical leadership for a small team of skilled and specialist trauma therapists. Working closely with the Service Manager, the Senior Therapists will offer leadership, support and supervision to the staff team.

Your impact

You will hold an agreed caseload of some of the more complex cases presenting in the service, which includes children who have experienced sexual abuse, traumatic/complicated bereavement or ACEs. Working to a clear clinical plan for the family, the kind of interventions you might offer would include: individual, dyadic or family therapy and therapeutic parenting work with parents/carers about the effects of trauma. You would also offer consultation/training to the wider professional network on the effects of developmental trauma, sexual abuse and traumatic grief.

You will hold and support the team as a trauma informed leader, supervising a small amount of staff and helping to lead allocations and triage processes alongside the other senior therapist. You will also oversee the throughput of cases and quality of provision through auditing processes as part of the leadership team as well as ensuring staff wellbeing is a priority.

Your skills and experience

We are looking for an experienced psychotherapist or counsellor who is trauma and attachment focused in their approach, has experience of working with children, young people and their parents/carers and is able to work systemically. This could include Child Psychotherapists, Drama or Art Therapists, Family Therapists, or Counsellors with additional training/experience in working with children and trauma. We would particularly welcome applications from individuals who have additional clinical training in a specific trauma and/or attachment focused therapy (e.g. EMDR, TFCBT, Theraplay, DDP etc.)
