The Challenge: NCS Youth Project Manger (Delivery)

Salary: £25,000 - £27,000 (dependent on location) pro rata
Location: Yorkshire, Greater London, Surrey, Bucks & Berks, West Midlands, Manchester and Lancashire.
Role Length: 4-5 months.
Dates: May - September.
Role Type: Core staff, manager, office based.

Known internally as the "Programme Associate Manager (Delivery)", the Youth Project Manager joins The Challenge's core staff team during the delivery period of our 2018 Summer NCS programme.
The NCS Programme Associate Manager is a pivotal role within our core Programmes team, supporting the Programme Manager to deliver NCS within a specific geographic area. You'll manage and lead a team of core staff, ensuring the delivery of a high quality and safe programme.
This role is perfect for motivated individuals with experience of line managing teams and project management.

Main Responsibilities

  • Set up a high quality, youth-focused and locally grounded NCS programme
  • Provide visible leadership of your team and across the wider zone
  • Directly line manage Assistant Programme Managers and some seasonal staff including managing & supporting their personal development and performance
  • Ensure the effective planning of key logistics including venues, transport and food
  • Develop high quality community projects that enable young people to make a difference in their local communities
  • Ensure and monitor compliance with The Challenge's policies & procedures throughout the programme delivery, focusing in particular on Health & Safety, Safeguarding and Finance
  • Participate in out-of-hours on call cover to provide pastoral support during delivery periods

Person specification

  • A passion for, and understanding of, building better communities and commitment to the aims of NCS.
  • Experience of coordinating large-scale events or projects.
  • A good understanding of health and safety principles.
  • Experience of working with groups of young people either in either a paid or voluntary capacity.
  • Confidence in motivating and speaking to large groups of people.
  • Experience of safeguarding young people.
  • Ability to identify & develop strong relationships with partners, and work collaboratively on projects with different departments & stakeholders.
  • Experience in line management and developing teams.
  • Strikingly positive & motivated attitude, with a passion for building stronger communities and seeing change in society.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; adaptable to responsive to changing situations.
  • A strong academic record or relevant equivalent experience.
