Beanstalk - West Yorkshire Branch

Description Beanstalk - Read, Grow, SucceedBeanstalk is a national children's literacy charity. The West Yorkshire branch supports more than 430 children through the dedicated support of nearly 150 volunteers in 60 primary schools in Bradford, Keighley and Leeds. Our Trained Reading Helpers work with three children, one-to-one, twice a week for 30 minutes each. They aim to inspire children and improve their confidence by giving them choices, making the sessions fun, and providing every opportunity to succeed. Our volunteers can be anyone aged 16+ who likes children, enjoys reading and is able to commit to helping 1.5 hours, 2 afternoons per week for at least 12 months. Our target group is children aged 5 to 11yrs. Volunteers can find out more and apply on-line at, or request an application form. When we receive your application we will contact you by phone to discuss it further. We may then invite you to a face-to-face interview, and will ask you to provide references and information to complete an application to the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). The welfare and safety of children is our priority. Placement in a school is dependent on successful completion of an initial full day's training, satisfactory references and a DBS certificate. Trained Reading Helpers receive further training and support from our Volunteer Coordinators, and travel expenses are paid up to a limit of five miles each way.
